CYPRUS LIGHTS AND GENERAL AIDS TO NAVIGATION Φάροι της Κύπρου και Γενικά βοηθήματα Ναυσιπλοϊας.
Reminder on Lights: 1. A light must, on a given bearing, maintain a consistent character. 2. The intensity of lights is given in candelas .Where the intensity of a light is capable of being varied, or where it is different in different sectors, two or more values are given. 3. Elevation is the vertical distance between the focal plane of the light and the level of Mean Highest High Water, whichever is given in Admiralty Tide Tables.(If using B.A. documents). This may be different in countries using their own cartographic services and facilities. 4. Luminous range is the maximum distance at which a light can be seen' at a given time as determined by the intensity of the light and the meteorological visibility prevailing at that time; it takes no account of the eleveation of the light and the observer's height of eye or the curvature of the earth. 5.
Nominal range is the luminous range when the meteorological visibility is
10 sea miles. 6.
Sector light.-A light presenting different appearances, either of
colour or character, over the horizon of interest to maritime navigation. 7. Leading lights.(Ldg Lts)-Two or more lights associated so as to form a leading line to be followed. for safe navigation. (For example in entering Paphos Port) . A reminder of Light abbreviations for Cyprus:-
