" It was summer 2002 windsurfing championship in Larnaca. Andreas finished first and spectators greeted him with clapping hands and whistles. He approached the beach. He seemed to be withdrawn and had a strange look as he lowered his head down pulled the board on the sandy beach at Nicosia's Sailing club premises in Larnaca and silently disappeared in the racing room. He took an official form and disqualified himself. Infringement= one boat-length inside swimmers area marker buoys!!!, Club officials run to ask the 2 athletes finishing in the second and third position "Was Andreas outside the race course? Did he really entered the swimmers area? the answer was negative " In any case he was far ahead and we could not see,........... why do you ask? . - "He disqualified himself!" His followers stood petrified as they looked at each other astounded.

15th of January 2008 :- His Excellency Minister of Education of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Akis Kleanthous and the President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee Mr.Kikis Lazarides appointed, Andreas, amongst other member Athletes of the National Olympic team, as an Ambassador of the Olympic Education programme. Andreas major task is to promote the principles and values of the Olympic spirit. This is a programme launched in 2008 by the Cyprus Olympic Committee in cooperation with the department of Education Sciences of the University of Cyprus.

15 Ιανουαρίου 2008. Η αυτού εξοχότης ο Υπουργός Παιδείας της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας Κος Ακης Κλεάνθους και ο Πρόεδρος της Κυπριακής Ολυμπιακής Επιτροπής και μέλος της Διεθνούς Ολυμπιακής Επιτροπής Κος Κίκης Λαζαρίδης, ανακηρύσσουν τον Ανδρέα Καριόλου μαζί με άλλους Αθλητές της Εθνικής Ολυμπιακής ομάδας ως Πρεσβευτή του προγράμματος Ολυμπιακής παιδείας. Ένας από τους στόχους του Ανδρέα είναι η διάδοση των αρχών και των ιδεωδών του Ολυμπισμού. Το πρόγραμμα Ολυμπιακής παιδείας της Κ.Ο.Ε γίνεται σε συνεργασία με το Τμήμα Επιστημών της Αγωγής του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου και τη συμπαράσταση του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού.
